The first cohort is planned to begin in the second week of January 2027, starting with Module A. The detailed schedule will be arranged around the cohort’s needs.

Module A includes one required two-day gathering in Chicago, with nine hours of instruction led by Rob Adler.

The dates will be arranged with the cohort. The venue and daily schedule, including arrival and departure guidance, will be confirmed so you can plan travel. Travel time is additional to the two training days.

Module A includes 21 hours of live online instruction and mentorship with Rob Adler. Regular meeting days and times will be arranged around the cohort’s availability. Include your time zone and available time windows in the application.

All 30 advertised hours of Module A are led by Rob Adler. Independent practice, preparation and assignments involving your own teaching are additional to those hours. The weekly assignment workload will be set out with the cohort schedule. The full pathway continues through Modules B–D.

Attendance and make-up requirements have not yet been set. If you already know of a scheduling conflict, raise it before enrolling. A recording or a later cohort is not currently an established make-up option.

The training is for experienced acting teachers, directors, coaches, and actors moving seriously into teaching. Admission will consider your acting education, preparation for teaching, experience with Spolin’s theatre games, and the teaching practice you can bring to the work.

Come ready to play, teach fellow participants, receive feedback and try again. The inaugural cohort is for adults aged 18 and over.

You do not need to hold a faculty position. If you are moving into teaching, describe your preparation and the opportunities you have to teach, direct or coach adult actors. Assignments will involve your own practical teaching experience, so that context matters alongside your acting background. Readiness will be considered through the application.

Yes, a practical foundation in the games matters. Applicants without suitable training with Rob Adler, or a teacher whose work Rob Adler recognizes as excellent, will likely need 90 hours of separate games preparation before Module A.

You may apply before completing this preparation. Include your teachers, programs, approximate dates and hours in the application. Rob Adler will review your prior training and identify any additional games training you need to complete before starting. This preparation is separate from Module A’s 30 hours led by Rob Adler.

Consent, access, cultural competence and trauma-informed teaching are part of what you study and practice. This includes clear participation boundaries, different ways into the work, and adapting a task while preserving its purpose.

Develop your ability to choose and adapt the work, recognize what actors are learning, build a connected course, and respond to the people in the room. The scope includes actor development, course design, classroom culture, consent and access, assessment, and stage and screen practice.

Personal mentorship makes that study specific to you: bring your current classroom practices and teaching questions to Rob Adler, then put the feedback to work. You are learning from Rob Adler while developing your own judgment as a teacher.

You’ll study directly with Rob Adler. Mentorship includes feedback on your lesson planning, cohort teaching and current classroom practices. You’ll examine your choices, revise the work and teach again.

The first cohort is limited to eight participants, allowing time for active practice, observation, individual feedback and mentorship from Rob Adler.

The training involves playing, observing, discussing and teaching. You’ll take part as both a learner and a teacher, with planned opportunities to teach fellow participants and receive feedback. A separate teaching turn or individual coaching in every meeting is not currently promised; the teaching rotation will be defined with the schedule.

Initial teaching practice is with fellow cohort participants: plan a short lesson, teach, receive feedback, revise and teach again. Asynchronous assignments also involve your own practical teaching experience.

You do not have to run your own school, but you need a suitable context teaching, directing or coaching adult actors for those assignments. Describe the opportunities available to you in your application. The program does not currently provide an outside class or student-teaching placement.

Module A tuition is $4,000. This includes all 30 hours led by Rob Adler, both online and in Chicago, course materials, mentorship and feedback.

Travel, lodging, meals and any prerequisite games training are separate. The $4,000 covers Module A; tuition for the full pathway has not been announced.

After acceptance and confirmation of the schedule, a $1,000 reservation payment is applied toward the $4,000 tuition. The remaining $3,000 is due two weeks before training begins.

No. Module A is the beginning of a longer teacher-training pathway; completing it does not confer certification. The full certification requirements and what a future designation permits will need to be defined before certification is offered.

The planned progression continues through Module B: Building a Course of Actor Training, Module C: Stage, Screen and the Profession, and Module D: Supervised Teaching, Mentoring and Integration.
